I didn’t order this

White Christma Thanksgiving? I certainly didn’t order this. I gotta drive to Plymouth, I hope the roads aren’t bad. Tyler wants to come. We made up; he’s curled up next to me staring at the keyboard (thinking about what he did hopefully).

Here’s some genius for you: YMMV Radio Episode 404 – a special holiday episode of the “Sick, Savvy and Twisted [show] With Intermittent Hot Deals” which clearly goes over the steps you need to take to properly argue with a cashier. Enjoy

new stuff here

I got some great work done on this site while I was at the teen center. My recent contest got me interested in how the comments, pingbacks and trackbacks of this blog software work. I got a couple plugins installed that thread the comments and make them collapsible, and then another little plugin that lets you subscribe to them, though I’m not sure if you’re subscribed to all the comments or just replies to yours… I think it’s all of them, since the threading is a plugin itself and probably can’t communicate with the subscription plugin. Then I added an avatar plugin that puts an image with your comment. It can use a local (to this site) one or one from the gravatar system (which seems to be down right now, unfortunately – if you’re going to be commenting and would like a custom avatar stored here locally, even if it’s only until gravatar gets back online, let me know). Getting all the formatting of that stuff in there took some serious fiddling, so a lagging computer would’ve made it impossible.

I have not figured out if there is a way to update people about posts made via eMail/phone… so those of you who are subscribed should also check out the moBlog section to see what you might’ve missed.

And sometimes the system seems to get a little overloaded, but I think the host took my advice and found some other means of securing the server aside from the ridiculous php safe mode. So the photo gallery is up and working, which is great, because converting it to something like coppermine seems like it’d be a lot of work for no good reason.
