Nibbler returns

My laptop, Nibbler, is back from the Dell Out of Warranty Repair department. A list came with it that said they replaced some fans and (hand-written next to “fans”) the audio chipset. That’s hopeful… at least it didn’t come back with a note saying, “we don’t know what’s wrong, good luck.” I’m gonna leave the CPU usage monitor open for a while, just in case.

I need to get the mail, and maybe the Firefox history and such, off of Death_Machine and back onto Nibbler… I’m pretty good at backing up those kind of settings, now, after all the reinstalls and shifting and switching. It’s so tempting to open Thunderbird, right now, but that would make the restoration process very difficult.

I also need to get the MP3s from Death_machine over here since I’ve done so much work on them… updating ID3 tags and adding album artwork and setting up the Sound Check stuff in iTunes. Why all the music tweaking? iPod. Got myself one as a late holiday present. I love it, but it forced me to organize all my MP3s’ information so that I didn’t have three separate folders for the same artist, or a bunch of slightly different (yet exactly the same) genres. It’s been kinda fun trying out all the different programs designed to help correctly tag and tweak the music library in iTunes… and the other programs designed to let you get your stuff off of your iPod and onto your hard drive. I’m tempted to use those programs to update the various computers… and I might, on the mac, since iTunes controls the music folders, but on the PCs, I think replacing the files over the network will be easier, hopefully the Sound Check stuff will carry over, if not, I may use the iPod. If it weren’t for all the extra stuff on the mac (that I probably want to keep, I dunno, I haven’t looked through it all yet) I’d just replace the libraries with the one on the iPod/Death_Machine.

registries suck. always have.

Lines at the DMV suck… and i get to do this again… at least twice, since this DMV can’t deal with my problem and my problem is “multi-state”
